In September 2011, Michael Mundaca re-joined Ernst & Young, LLP, in Washington, DC, as co-director of its National Tax Department and Americas Tax Center. In this position, he oversees 2,000+ tax professionals. Before he re-joined EY, Michael Mundaca worked in the U.S. Treasury Department as the Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy. He received the appointment from President Obama and advised Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on taxation matters.

In addition, Michael Mundaca spent two years as the Deputy Assistant Treasury Secretary for International Tax Affairs during the both Bush and Obama administrations. During this period, he represented the United States at international forums, such as the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), and negotiated tax treaties.

Michael Mundaca earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and physics from Columbia College, and was on the school’s lightweight rowing team and was president of its philosophical society. He obtained his master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Chicago and his juris doctor from the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Mundaca also holds a master of laws (LL.M.) in international tax from the University of Miami.
